ISCEA Visits STIGA Sports Headquarters in Eskilstuna

At STIGA Sports headquarters in Eskilstuna, Sweden, ISCEA encountered a meeting point between an 80-year sporting legacy and the next chapter of global pickleball.

Against the backdrop of Sweden's royal tradition, Scandinavian design, and sporting culture, the International Sports & Culture Exchange Association visited STIGA Sports for an in-depth exchange with the company's leadership and product team. The visit connected STIGA's Swedish heritage with ISCEA's perspective on the rapidly evolving U.S. and international pickleball market.

A Swedish Sporting Story Since 1944

STIGA began making table tennis products in 1944. Today, the company is headquartered in Eskilstuna and represented in more than 100 countries. Table tennis remains at the heart of the brand: STIGA continues to develop and manufacture world-renowned table tennis blades in its own wood-production facility in Eskilstuna, combining Swedish craftsmanship, precision, and modern technology.

STIGA's history also reveals an athlete-driven approach to innovation. In the 1950s, Swedish champion Tage Flisberg was brought into the company and tasked with helping develop a new table tennis bat, an early example of a product shaped by high-level player experience. That philosophy remains highly relevant as STIGA expands across racket sports including padel, tennis, badminton, and pickleball.

Royal Recognition

In 2026, STIGA Sports was appointed Purveyor to the Royal Court of Sweden, an honorary distinction personally granted by H.M. The King. STIGA states that approximately 130 companies in Sweden currently hold the appointment.

The milestone reflects continuity across generations: STIGA began table tennis production in Sweden in 1944, welcomed Prince Daniel to its Eskilstuna facilities in 2018, and received royal recognition in 2026.

A Leadership Conversation: Sweden, the U.S. and Asia-Pacific

ISCEA Co-Founder and President Kathy Liu met with STIGA Sports CEO Andreas Zandren and David Huang, STIGA Asia-Pacific General Manager, together with members of STIGA's product team. Their presence brought three complementary perspectives into one conversation: STIGA's Swedish heritage and product-development experience, ISCEA's direct view of the U.S. pickleball ecosystem, and Asia-Pacific leadership in markets where pickleball is beginning to scale rapidly.

Liu presented ISCEA's analysis of the U.S. pickleball market and the sport's broader global trajectory. The discussion went beyond participation growth to examine the emerging ecosystem around clubs, professional competition, collegiate programs, coaching, equipment innovation, player influence, and international exchange.

The exchange continued beyond formal meetings, bringing STIGA leadership, product team members, and visiting partners together in Eskilstuna.

From Market Insight to Product Development

The exchange continued on the product floor. STIGA's team shared paddle concepts and discussed construction, materials, design, and player experience. This was particularly meaningful because STIGA's own history has long connected elite-player feedback with product development, a model that fits naturally with pickleball, where equipment technology and player expectations are evolving quickly.

The group later moved onto the court for open play and hands-on testing of new STIGA pickleball paddles. For ISCEA, this connected market knowledge, player and coach experience, and product development in one setting. Specifications can describe a paddle, but its character is ultimately revealed in the player's hand through control, feel, resets, drives, counters, spin, and confidence under pressure.

An 80-Year Brand Meets a Young Global Sport

The contrast inside STIGA's Swedish home is compelling. On one side is history: Swedish manufacturing, generations of table tennis equipment, world-class athletes, and, in 2026, recognition as a Purveyor to the Royal Court of Sweden. On the other side is possibility: pickleball is still building its professional structure, coaching ecosystem, collegiate pathway, international competition, and equipment identity.

That is why the ISCEA-STIGA dialogue matters. STIGA brings more than 80 years of sporting heritage, Swedish engineering, and global reach. ISCEA brings direct engagement with the U.S. pickleball community and an international exchange platform connecting players, coaches, universities, and sports organizations across the United States and Asia.

For ISCEA, STIGA's support is more than sponsorship. It represents the possibility of connecting a proven sporting heritage with the people, ideas, and international relationships that can help shape pickleball's next chapter.
